... Takeshi Hongo was a university student who was kidnapped by Shocker, an evil organization dedicated to taking over the world. They would alter kidnapped people into cyborg kaijin. Hongo managed to escape after he was altered, but before he was brainwashed, and became Kamen Rider to save the world from Shocker.

Shocker then tried to create another Kamen Rider to fight Hongo. Hongo interrupted the brainwashing, and Ichimonji Hayato became Kamen Rider number 2. They fought Shocker, and later GelShocker.

With Shocker gone, Hongo became a high school teacher. The family of one of his students, Kazami Shirou, was murdered, and Kazami himself was fatally injured by a kaijin attack from an organization called Destron. The only way to save his life was to make him a cyborg as well, and so he became Kamen Rider V3, to fight Destron.
